The licensing of FT digital newspaper clippings is changing
New FT press cuttings service now available.
The FT’s corporate licence has been extended to include digital images of FT newspaper articles, previously licensed by the Newspaper Licensing Agency (NLA).
The consolidation of digital licensing provides FT licence holders with unlimited access to FT journalism, including pdfs of Financial Times newspaper articles, through FT.com, media monitoring services and news aggregation services – for one price*. View FT channel partners.
A new FT press cuttings service is now available at www.ft.com/presscuttings, which enables users to search and view digital images of FT articles as they appeared in the newspaper. The digital images form part of the FT.com ‘metered’ access model, where registered users can access up to 10 articles per month at no cost and unlimited access to articles requires a premium or corporate subscription.
How does this affect you?
Existing NLA licence holders
-
For existing NLA licence holders, the change will happen over the course of 12 months, from July 2010 to July 2011, as each NLA licence comes up for renewal
-
From 1 July 2010, you can continue to access FT newspaper clippings without an FT corporate licence until the end of your current NLA licence
-
As your NLA licence comes up for renewal, you can purchase a licence from the FT to receive unlimited access to FT articles (via FT.com and/or third party services)
-
After the NLA licence renewal date, you will no longer have unlimited access to FT content via third party services unless your organisation has signed an FT licence
Existing FT corporate customers
-
For existing FT corporate customers, the price of the licence is determined by the number of users, not the number of platforms
-
Consequently, if you want to access FT newspaper clippings via FT.com and/or third party services, there will be no increase in the cost of your licence unless you require additional users
-
If you need access for additional users, previously covered by an NLA licence, please contact your account manager for more information
Press Cutting Agencies
-
The FT has signed licences with 18 Press Cutting Agencies (PCAs) and Media Monitoring Agencies (MMAs). Please contact us if you are interested in working with the FT
-
PCAs will continue to receive FT newspaper clippings from the NLA in order to provide a service to their clients
-
Customers of PCAs and MMAs will require an FT corporate licence for unlimited access to pdfs of FT newspaper articles
PR agencies
-
A PR agency has the option to buy a licence for their internal use based on the number of people that require access to more than 10 FT articles a month
-
The FT intends to continue working with PCAs and MMAs so your service should be unaffected
News aggregators
-
Pdfs of FT newspaper articles are available through the NLA’s eClips database and FT.com
-
From July 2010, FT newspaper clippings will be available to clients with an FT direct licence via some third party news aggregation services
-

* Buying an FT Corporate Licence does not include a subscription to third party services.
